A 20-year career in Army Special Forces led our latest Community Champion, Alex Deep, into a new chapter…and eventually, to the Tampa Bay Sun Foundation.
As part of his transition from the military, Alex served as Tampa Bay Sun FC’s Chief of Staff during the second half of last season, the spring of 2026. That role gave him the opportunity to see the Foundation’s work up close, from free youth soccer clinics to creating accessible soccer experiences for children with disabilities.
It didn’t take long for Alex to realize that the Foundation’s mission was something he wanted to be part of.
Throughout his two decades in Army Special Forces, Alex developed the leadership, teamwork and service mindset that continue to shape the way he approaches every opportunity. His career took him around the world, but in this next chapter, he has found something especially meaningful in connecting with kids and serving the Tampa Bay community.
From Pros & Pals to Pre-Match Clinics, Alex has embraced every opportunity to get on the field, connect with young players and help create experiences that make soccer more accessible to everyone.
And if you’ve been around one of our clinics, you may know Alex by another name: the “Sharks & Minnows King!” His energy, enthusiasm and willingness to hop in have made him a memorable part of so many Foundation experiences.
We’re grateful for Community Champions like Alex who bring their experience, heart, and commitment to service into the Tampa Bay community.
Thank you, Alex, for being part of the Sun Foundation family, for helping us make soccer more accessible, and for your decades of service to our country.
